Xevious by Namco, licensed to Atari 1984

This arcade game was the pioneer in vertical flying shoot em up games. Sky Shark, Twin Cobra, Raiden, all came later. The player controls a fighter with guns and bombs that must infiltrate a highly defended area and destroy everything in sight. The overall goal is to destroy the motherships that pop up periodically.
